North Wales Women’s League Division Two champions Bethesda made it 10 straight wins with a fitting 10-2 victory over Penrhyn Bay at The Oval, Llandudno.

Despite the scoreline, however, Pesda should arguably have doubled their tally as they were not at their sharpest in front of goal, while Bay deserve credit for a fine second-half display which helped ensure they avoided a heavier defeat.

Top-scorer Katie Midwinter set the ball rolling for the visitors when she smashed home an angled drive in the third minute.

Athletic doubled their lead on 14 when Awel Fflur Ellis lashed in a beauty from 25 yards.

A trademark Midwinter free kick made it three two minutes later, then Ceri Lois rounded off a sharp turn with a fine finish for number four.

Midwinter struck the outside of the post on 21 minutes, but after 28 Shannon Jones found the net with a smart chip.

Five minutes later Jones netted again with a crisp left foot shot, and she almost completed a hat-trick before the break when she hit the woodwork.

Half-time: 0-6

Midwinter made it a treble early in the second half when her first shot was kept out by the keeper but she eventually finished off from the rebound.

Penrhyn decided they had enough of playing second fiddle and responded with a fine spell of their own.

Melissa Kelly rolled the ball home to open their account and a well-hit effort from Kelsey Morrey made it 7-2 on 62 minutes.

Pesda were being quite wasteful in attack before rediscovering their ruthless streak in the closing stages.

Ellis’ cross was well finished off by Ceri Lois, then the energetic Hannah McGoona ended a fine run by beating the keeper in impressive fashion.

Pesda reached double figures courtesy of Midwinter’s fourth, which took the captain’s goals tally for the season to 25.

All hail the 2018/19 North Wales Women’s League Division Two champions – Bethesda Athletic Ladies

Bethesda are the 2018/19 North Wales Women’s Football League Division Two champions at the first attempt!
Newly-formed this season, Pesda sealed the title by stretching their perfect record to nine straight wins with a 3-1 success at Amlwch.
Needing just two more points to clinch the crown, Athletic would have secured the championship regardless of the outcome at Lon Bach as the only team which could pass their points total, Wrexham, were beaten 2-0 at home by Corwen.
It was a good battle at Amlwch, a physical encounter played in strong winds.
Town had the conditions in their favour in the first half and led at the break courtesy of a long range cracker from Lexi Crawley.
After the interval Bethesda were on the attack instantly and Hannah McGoona soon equalised, latching onto a loose ball and finishing well.
It was not long before top-scorer and captain Katie Midwinter created some space and hit a typical 25-yard strike which found the net for her 21st goal of the season.
Ceri Lois clinched the points and the title when she latched onto a crossfield pass from Midwinter and finished in trademark style.
Pesda keeper Angharad Evans performed well for her side, while Ceri Pritchard in the opposite goal also produced some fine saves.

Katie is also leading scorer in North Wales Division Two with 15 goals. She has netted 18 in all this term for Pesda and also found the net twice for former club Bethel at the start of the season.
